Old Portsmouth Residents Motivated and Stepping Out!
Pictured are Sue & Sophie (left) from youth organisation Motiv8 in between two local residents Angela & Eileen (right) and local business stakeholder Tim from KB boat park. As part of a PMS led initiative to help create a more restorative community and build connections between local people and young summer visitors, Motiv8 are leading detached youth work to engage with some of the young people who visit the area on hot summer days. The primary role of the outreach teams is to meet and engage with both local residents and young people. It is envisaged that relationships will be developed with local residents and traders and young visitors and that team members will learn the names of some of these people. The Outreach teams are aware of the local events and activities that are being held throughout the summer and carry promotional material to hand out and publicise. They also engage local residents and young visitors with a survey that seeks to better understand the dynamics and needs of the community. These teams are very visible, identifiable, and trustworthy to all sections of the Old Portsmouth community including regular visitors. The Youth Outreach Teams are joined by members of the community to help further facilitate good and natural conversations with some of the young people who regularly visit the area. This project is being supported and funded by the Hampshire Crime Commissioner.
