New Landlord and Tenant Mediation Service

New Landlord and Tenant Mediation Service

PMS is working with Portsmouth City Council to pilot a scheme to help landlords and tenants navigate difficult situations in a more positive way.

The mediation service offers free, independent advice and support for both landlords and tenants that find themselves at odds on a range of topics, including rent arears and repairs.

The PMS Specially trained staff will act as mediators to explore the root causes of issues, look at options and wherever possible will help agree an approach that works for both parties. The service uses what’s called a restorative approach, which focuses on facilitating positive communication and helps repair relationships so that everyone concerned can achieve a better outcome. They can also help put people in touch with other organisations that can offer practical advice and support.

How does it work?

  • A private landlord or tenant refers themselves to the service and will get an initial appointment to discuss the issue.
  • If it is something the mediation service can support with, the staff from the mediation service will contact the other party to see whether they are interested.
  • If both parties give permission, a conversation will take place and an approach agreed.

How can I get help?

You can refer yourself to the service by emailing steve@portsmouthmediationservice.org.uk or by calling 07958 473474.
